Acrylonitrile(CAS NO: 107-13-1)

Properties: Colorless and transparent liquid with a pungent odor (similar to bitter almond or peach kernel), melting point -83.6℃, boiling point 77.3℃, density 0.806 g/cm3 (at 20℃), slightly soluble in water (7.45 g/100 mL), readily soluble in most organic solvents (such as acetone, benzene, ethanol), vapor forms explosive mixtures with air, flammable upon exposure to open flame, high heat or oxidants, releasing toxic gases (such as hydrogen cyanide, nitrogen oxides); reacts vigorously with strong acids, strong bases, amines, bromine; prone to polymerization (especially under light, high temperature or alkaline conditions), forming polyacrylonitrile (raw material for acrylic fiber); stable at room temperature but should be protected from air and light to prevent polymerization.

Function: It is an important organic chemical raw material, mainly applied in the fields of synthetic fibers, plastics, rubber and aerospace, etc. Acrylonitrile is also used to manufacture water repellents, adhesives, and serves as a non-protonic polar solvent and an oilfield mud additive.
