Properties: A fluorinated organic compound, present as a white or off-white powder (high purity), or a colorless liquid (low purity). Density: 1.2 ± 0.1 g/cm3 (high purity), 1.296 g/cm3 (low purity). Boiling point: 95.5 ± 0.0°C (high purity), 95°C (low purity). Melting point: -28°C. Flash point: 0.4 ± 23.2°C (high purity), 3°C (low purity). Refractive index: 1.300 (high purity), 1.338 (low purity). Its acidity is similar to that of phenol (pKa ≈ 13). It is soluble in water, acids, ethanol, ether, and other solvents. It is chemically stable, but flammable. Store in a cool, dry place.
Uses: It is an important aliphatic fluorinated intermediate used as a pharmaceutical intermediate to construct difluoroethoxy groups for the synthesis of various drugs, including mPGE synthase inhibitors, PDE-4 inhibitors, and retinoid X receptor modulators. It plays a key role in the synthesis of microsomal prostaglandin E (mPGE) and is used to treat pain and inflammation. It is also used in the synthesis of penoxsulam, a broad-spectrum herbicide that effectively controls barnyardgrass, sedge seeds, and broadleaf weeds in rice fields, with an effective duration of 30-60 days. As a key raw material for new fluorinated materials, it participates in the synthesis of fluoropolymers with applications in aviation, microelectronics, automotive, and optical fields. It can also be used in the preparation of fluorinated cleaning agents (such as 1,1-difluoroethyl-2,2-difluoroethyl ether) for cleaning corrosion-resistant materials such as SUS 316.
