Properties: Colorless liquid, density 0.712-0.718 g/cm3 (water = 1), relative density (air = 1) 3.87-3.9, boiling point 120.9-123.0°C (standard atmospheric pressure), melting point -102.0°C, insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, and petroleum ether. Flash point 21.1-21.0°C (OC), autoignition temperature 230.0°C, explosive limits 0.7%-3.9%.
Applications: By disrupting the regularity of polyethylene molecular chains, it significantly improves the material's tensile properties, impact resistance, and low-temperature resistance (down to -70°C), while also enhancing machinability and transparency. It is a key raw material for the production of polyolefin elastomers, widely used in automotive parts, photovoltaic encapsulation films, and other fields. Its molecular structure imparts excellent weather resistance and flexibility. Through addition and oxidation reactions, 1-octene can be derived into fine chemicals such as octanol, octanal, and surfactants, which are used in the synthesis of lubricants and solvents. Polyalphaolefin oxide (PAO) base oils synthesized from 1-octene meet the demanding operating conditions of aerospace and new energy vehicles, exhibiting excellent lubrication properties. 1-octene copolymerized LLDPE films can be reduced in thickness without sacrificing strength, aligning with the environmentally friendly trend of plastic reduction and finding applications in food packaging and daily necessities.
