Properties: A colorless gas with a pungent, acetylene-like odor. It is highly volatile. Boiling point: 59.4°C (at standard atmospheric pressure). Vapor pressure: 28.71 kPa (at 25°C). Density: 0.958 g/cm3 (or 0.96, depending on temperature). Slightly soluble in water, but highly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, benzene, and chloroform. It readily polymerizes into oligomers and may oxidize to form peroxides upon heating or exposure to light, with decomposition producing hydrogen chloride gas. It is highly flammable and explosive; its vapor can form an explosive mixture with air (explosion limits: 2.1%-11.5%).
