Properties: Colorless liquid with a characteristic odor. Becomes transparent when mixed with the stabilizer BHT. Melting point: -93.5°C to -101°C (varies slightly depending on the source), boiling point: 101-103°C (liquid) or 101.2-102°C (vapor), density: 0.716 g/mL (20°C), refractive index: 1.411 (20/D), flash point: 2°C. It is highly chemically active and can participate in addition, oxidation, and reduction reactions. It readily undergoes alkylation and halogenation with a variety of compounds. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents.

Uses: It is an important organic chemical intermediate and a key raw material for synthetic rubber. It is used to produce tackifying resins with excellent oil and aging resistance, primarily in tires, hoses, and tapes. It is also used in the manufacture of nonionic surfactants, oil-soluble phenol polyacrylaldehyde resins (POPs), specialty polymers, and elastomers, enhancing the performance of rubber, coatings, and other products. It is a basic raw material for the production of fine chemicals such as octylphenol and isononyl alcohol, and is used in the manufacture of antioxidants, fragrance additives, and pharmaceutical intermediates. It is also used as a modifier for epoxy and phenolic resins, improving their chemical resistance and processing properties. It is also used as a drier intermediate for paints and coatings. It also includes UV absorbers, polymerization inhibitors, polyvinyl chloride stabilizers, and plasticizers, and is used in plastics, sealants, lubricants, and other fields.
